I'm Not There CONTEST (Bob Dylan Vs. Sonic Youth)
This time it's a major label recording crammed with "indie" artists... the Robert Allen Zimmerman Bio Pic I'm Not There Soundtrack. It has received plenty of coverage elsewhere, no? In case you are unfamiliar with it, the two discs feature Eddie Vedder, Sonic Youth, Calexico, Cat Power, John Doe, Yo La Tengo, Jeff Tweedy, Mark Lanegan, and Sufjan Stevens among others doing Dylan covers and one song from Dylan & The Band.
Well, I am giving the OST away and all you have to do to get it is leave a comment explaining which you like better, the Bob Dylan & The Band song "I'm Not There" or the Sonic Youth cover. The big big winner will be chosen in two weeks (around May 30th anyway).
Listen to "I'm Not There":
The Bob Dylan & The Band Version (mp3)
The Sonic Youth Cover (mp3)
Dear Sony Corporate Overlords:
I will take these mp3s down if you so desire (and fast), but I would like to point out that these are already available elsewhere on the internets and this is done in the interest of promoting your products (The Soundtrack and The Movie).
Dear Readers:
Yes, this swag is from a megacorporation, but it of high quality (except that Hold Steady cover, what a stinker). So, I thought I would pass it on to you. If I was giving out the soundtrack to say... The Hottie And The Nottie, then I would totally understand if you went and deleted my rss feed from your reader. (For the record, I don't think a The Hottie And The Nottie OST was actually released).
If you don't win and just want to buy the CDs (or 4x12"), you can get 'em... here or here (respectively). As for the DVD, I am pretty sure you have the wherewithal to find that elsewhere.

Dear Sony Corporate Overlords.
Please don't hassle Bob about Bob, it only makes you look stupid, petty and a bunch of fucking idiots.
Thanks for being so understanding.
purplesimon out...
P.S. Bob has no affiliation to me, I'm just one of his readers, a fan of him via Facebook and one of his FB friends. We've never met, probably won't, and we might not even like one another if we did. We are, however, fans of good music, which is my reason for being here.
Right you are purplesimon.
But which version of "I'm Not There" do you like? And why?
I've never been a big fan of Bob Dylan and the Band together aenen though I love both of them when they do stuff on their own. Yes, that includes THE BASEMENT TAPES. So I guess SY wins by default.
How's that?
Works for me. You may win by default, unless someone else leaves a comment by May 30.
KS... you win. Email me (bobreich _at_ gmail.com) your address and I'll pop the soundtrack in the mail.
