Yeti By Like Bells

Get ready for some postrock goodness, Like Bells. The band plays violin/viola, guitar, drums, and cpu. While these guys come out of the Oberlin/Cleveland scene they are not as noisy as the recent acts we have heard from Ohio. That is not a bad thing. Their self-titled Exit Stencil debut was engineered, mixed, and produced by the band. It comes out on May 19th, 2009. They will be in the NYC area sometime around May, 29, venue TBA.

Traces Of Alignment By Skinner Pilot

So, I namechecked a Pioneer Valley 90's indie rock band the other day, thinking I should do a follow up post. You know what? There is surprisingly little info about Skinner Pilot on ye ole internets. I do know that Skinner Pilot featured Elizabeth Sharp and that she is now Ill Ease. Plus, she was an original member of New Radiant Storm King, and she helped name that band after a brand of radiator. Anyway, I friggin' love this track, and you will too.

Without any further ado, Skinner Pilot everyone...

Fear And Loathing In Mahwah, NJ By Titus Andronicus

Purveyors of springsteenpunkblues, Titus Andronicus seemed to be playing in NY every five minutes this Summer. Amazingly, I missed every show.

Electric Arc By Oxford Collapse

The new Oxford Collapse album BITS is out. It looks like this:

BITS by Oxford Collapse

Downloadable: "Electric Arc" (box.net mp3)

What can I say? I fucking love this track. Is it the thundering bass? Is it the jangly guitars? Is it the chorus stuck in my head? 'Dunno. I (can't?) remember when it was just an unreleased ditty made available on Daytrotter. I have seen it referred to as "Electric Art" (on Amazon) and "Electric Air" (on Fluxblog), but will use the track name from the Sub Pop interwebsite.

One Less Blues By Karate

Geoff Farina, Jeff Goddard and Gavin McCarthy are no longer Karate. I think it was Mike Conklin who said the guitar tone they achieve is straight out the best you have ever heard (or something to that effect). Perhaps, "So Fresh, So Clean" is secretly about guitar tone. Prolly not.

Only The Young By Traindodge

So, this week's Contrast Podcast is part one of the second CP mix swap.

Listen: "CD Swap 2 (Part 1)" (mp3)

More about the podcast... here.

I received my CD from SiD from Too Much Rock. The theme? URININE Records 1997-2004. I found out about a bunch of band I had never done heard, including: The Believe It Or Nots, The Hillary Step, and Park Ave. However, I did pick a band familiar to me. So, what band did I pick? Traindodge! I had first heard about Traindodge at the blog Built At A Weak Spot (which is where I take care of all my midwestern rock/noise needs). Later on, last.fm kept recommending Traindodge my way. So. Get. Ready... For Norman, Oklahoma's own... Traindodge.
