Art Star By The Oranges Band

OK people, time get ready for a 2009 release. I am talking about the next Oranges Band album... The Oranges Band Are Invisible. It is going to be released in February next year.

The album sounds like this.

Downloadable: "Art Star" (box.net mp3)

It looks like this.

The Oranges Band Are Invisible

The Oranges Band presently consists of original members Roman Kuebler and Dave Voyles, plus there are two new faces rounding out the quartet on this recording... Doug Gillard (former GBV) and Pat Martin (of Never Enough).

Oh, and if you must have the album before it's official release, the band is doing a "limited edition pre-release" of the album. A hand assembled album package will be available at a few shows on the east coast in November and also through mail order after November 14th (specifics TK). One such show is at The Bell House in Brooklyn:

Saturday November 15, 2008
The Bell House (149 7th St.)
With A.C. Newman (of The New Pornographers), Bird of Youth

Hopefully, there will be mucho touring around the Metro NYC area in support of the new album next year.

VIDEO: This Note's For You By Neil Young And The Bluenotes

Below I embedded a vid I found on the new mtv-branded music video internet website. Julian Temple directed it and because it featured parodies of popular advertising campaigns it was temporarily banned by MTV. However this was not for long as it did win a "Best Video" VMA. Have I mentioned that this is Neil Young we are talking about.

Now, the one image in the video that perplexes me is when Joe Sixpack smacks the spokesmodel for Concession By Neil Young over the head. It just seems unnecessary. Homophobia was just very mainstream back in the late 80s, even for people making a countercultural point. Comparatively, pouring a softbeverage over the head of the flaming Michael Jackson impersonator, totally necessary.

Also, we have... say, this, and we just accept it. But you say: "they aren't getting me to drink their tasty yet extreme beverage by giving me a free mp3." Maybe not, but that's not the point. The point is the invasion of marketing into every fucking thing. But, I guess getting more kids to listen to Matt & Kim isn't a bad thing. Won't somebody please think about the children?

Anyway, enough rambling, Also...

Traces Of Alignment By Skinner Pilot

So, I namechecked a Pioneer Valley 90's indie rock band the other day, thinking I should do a follow up post. You know what? There is surprisingly little info about Skinner Pilot on ye ole internets. I do know that Skinner Pilot featured Elizabeth Sharp and that she is now Ill Ease. Plus, she was an original member of New Radiant Storm King, and she helped name that band after a brand of radiator. Anyway, I friggin' love this track, and you will too.

The Broken Social Scene Minimix

I have here a minimix of Broken Social Scene. If you are seeing them tonight and you do not know these songs, there is probably something wrong with you. This is a little something to help you get psyched, that is unless you are a superfan in which case you certainly don't need my help. And if you are not a fan at all, perhaps you will give a listen and decide that you have misjudged these vistitors from the North. And if you are saying to yourself "Broken Social Who?"... scroll down right now and start listening.

My question for tonight is this: "Will this concert experience be any better than Apostle Of Hustle at Southpaw?" Because that show was friggin' amazing.

I'm not breaking any new ground here with this mix. Theses are songs that have been floating around the internets for a while now. I don't have any surreptitiously recorded tour demos or anything like that. Do enjoy them.

Downloadables:
"Love And Mathematics" (box.net mp3)
"Alive In 85" (box.net mp3)
"Stars And Sons" (box.net mp3)
"Cause = Time" (box.net mp3)
"Ibi Dreams Of Pavement (A Better Day)" (box.net mp3)
"Canada Vs. America"(box.net mp3)

The A-Side: "One Cross Apiece"
The B-Side: "Put It In Writing"

I can't say I love love the A-Side, as the studio seems to have muted the Obits energy a bit. I was picturing something more, well, rockin'. It may just be that my expectations were raised to ridiculous levels by the live stuff floating around the internets. I should probably knock my expectations down a bit. Idiotheque (Radiohead Cover) By We Versus The Shark

Today, I have for you the latest We Versus The Shark cover. The song covered was originally played by a band from Oxfordshire. The cover is a slowed down thrashy recreation. And yes, there is a superfluous "h" in the title of the cover.

Downloadable: "Idiotheque (Radiohead Cover)" (quoteunquote mp3)

Streamable Original: "Idioteque (Live At APW)" (youtube)

FYI: We Versus The Shark is a posthardcore band from Athens. Radiohead is, well, Radiohead. There is quite a lot written about them -- 38,900,000 hits worth.
